Bulbs and light sources

Which bulb base (socket) do I need?

The base type is printed on the old bulb or on the luminaire's label or manual. The most common types:

  • E27 – standard (large) screw base, 27 mm diameter; common in ceiling lights and floor lamps.
  • E14 – small screw base, 14 mm diameter; common in chandeliers, wall lights and table lamps.
  • GU10 – twist-lock spotlight base with two lugs, runs directly on 230 V mains voltage.
  • GU5.3 (MR16) – two-pin spotlight base, usually for 12 V systems (a transformer / driver is required).
  • G9 – small two-pin (loop) base used in compact luminaires.

Before replacing a bulb, always check the base type, the maximum wattage allowed by the luminaire and the size. If the light is dimmable, choose a bulb whose data sheet states that it is dimmable.

Which colour temperature should I choose?

Colour temperature is given in kelvin (K); the lower the number, the “warmer” (more yellowish) the light.

  • 2700–3000 K – warm white: cosy light similar to a traditional bulb; for living rooms and bedrooms.
  • 4000 K – natural (neutral) white: for kitchens, bathrooms, studies and offices.
  • 5000–6500 K – cool white: for workshops, warehouses and garages where strong, daylight-like light is needed.

On every product page we state the colour temperature and the luminous flux (lumen) of each light source. Brightness is indicated by the lumen value, not by the wattage.

What does the IP rating mean?

The IP code indicates protection against dust and water. For bathrooms we recommend at least IP44; for outdoor, damp or dusty areas choose a luminaire rated IP65. The IP rating is shown on each product page.

Installation

Can I install the light myself?

You can replace a bulb yourself (after switching off the power and letting it cool down). Connecting luminaires and any other electrical work must only be carried out by a qualified electrician. Instructions for our product types are collected on the Installation guides page.
